At the start of 2024, I collaborated on a CGI project for a milestone publication: the SORDI synthetic data research paper. Commissioned by BMW, the film focuses on the assembly process of a digital mesh divider used within their iFACTORY, requiring a deep dive into complex digital string and cloth simulations.
The project challenged me to visualize the birth of a digital asset through intricate knitting and weaving experiments. I developed a sequence that follows the asset from its initial forming to its precise placement within a digital factory environment, illustrating how these high-fidelity models are integrated into a larger industrial ecosystem and used for synthetic data.
To bridge the gap between simulation and science, the film finally transitions from the 3D environment directly into the technical text of the research paper. This workflow highlights the vital role of synthetic data in modern manufacturing and demonstrates how technical visualization can make abstract research concepts tangible.
